We managed to see several Nile crocodiles, mostly just resting on the river banks, some of them with their jaws open for heat control. There were also some Nile monitor lizards. The biggest birds we spotter were handsome African fish eagles, and during the boat tour we also saw glossy ibis, African obenbill stork, spur-winged goose, Egyptian goose, great cormorant and many more bird species.#finnsaway #nomadlife #travelblog #travelbloggers #locationindependent #digitalnomads #digitalnomadlife #nomadiclife #travelforlife #travelphotography #travelinspiration #instatravel #visitbotswana #choberiver
Especially during the dry winter season (May to Oc Especially during the dry winter season (May to October), Chobe river is a vital source of water for a large variety of wild animals. Chobe National Park is especially famous for elephants, having in fact the world's largest concentration of African bush elephants. It's common to see dozens, even hundreds of elephants during a boat tours in Chobe River in the dry season. This year the rainy season arrived late, and we heard that even in early November there were still large herds of elephants on the banks of the river. Unfortunately for us, it had finally rained before our visit, and the elephants had wandered away from the river. However, we were able to see a lot of other mammals on the riverbanks, including African buffaloes, warthogs, waterbucks, impalas and red lechwe antelopes.#finnsaway #nomadlife #travelblog #travelbloggers #locationindependent #digitalnomads #digitalnomadlife #nomadiclife #travelforlife #travelphotography #travelinspiration #instatravel #visitbotswana #choberiver
What a wonderful trip to Botswana!🦛😍 Chobe R What a wonderful trip to Botswana!🦛😍 Chobe River was the main destination of our short visit to Botswana, a landlocked country in Southern Africa, bordered by Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe, and connected to Zambia by a bridge crossing the Zambezi River.Chobe River is home to a huge amount of hippos, and we were lucky to see a lot of them during a boat ride along the river in Chobe National Park! Boat trip was a great way to observe the hippos, even if the boats of course avoid going too close to the animals to not to disturb them.Botswana is one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world, but instead has diverse areas of wildlife habitat. There are rivers and deltas full of wildlife, but also large savannas and grasslands, home to a great variety of mammals and birds for example.#finnsaway #nomadlife #travelblog #travelbloggers #locationindependent #digitalnomads #digitalnomadlife #nomadiclife #travelforlife #travelphotography #travelinspiration #instatravel #visitbotswana #choberiver
This is a rather unusual sight in East Africa! Le This is a rather unusual sight in East Africa! Le Château Le Marara is a newly constructed European-style castle in Kibuye, on the shores of Lake Kivu. It's beautiful, though maybe also quite kitschy, or what do you think? The owner of the castle is said to be a Rwandan living in France, and the architecture very much affected by some of the buildings he has admired in France. There is a plan, that this castle will be opened as a hotel and an event venue in December 2023.#finnsaway #nomadlife #travelblog #travelbloggers #locationindependent #digitalnomads #digitalnomadlife #nomadiclife #travelforlife #travelphotography #travelinspiration #instatravel #visitrwanda #lakekivu
Throwback to the beautiful but dangerous Lake Kivu Throwback to the beautiful but dangerous Lake Kivu in Rwanda! Did you know that exploding lakes are a thing? Well, they are, and Lake Kivu is one of the three of them in the world, which makes it one of the most dangerous places in the whole world😱Lake Kivu, the eight largest lake of Africa, is located on the border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, upon a rift valley. It is known to undergo limnic eruptions, a rare natural disaster in which dissolved carbon dioxide, and in Lake Kivu's case also methane, suddenly erupts from deep lake waters, forming a gas cloud capable of asphyxiating wildlife, livestock, and millions of people living in the surrounding valley☠️However, at least for now, the lake is in stable stage, and some of the towns around it are popular holiday destinations. We visited Kibuye, an idyllic lake-side town three to four hours bus ride away from Kigali. In October Kibuye was very quiet, and except for boat rides (that pretty much everyone offered us), there is not much to do. But that is actually part of the charm of this place - just relax (or well, have some laptop time) and enjoy the views!😍#finnsaway #nomadlife #travelblog #travelbloggers #locationindependent #digitalnomads #digitalnomadlife #nomadiclife #travelforlife #travelphotography #travelinspiration #instatravel #visitrwanda #lakekivu
