Julkaistu: 7 elokuun, 2020

House-sitting is (at least for us) a wonderful way House-sitting is (at least for us) a wonderful way of living nomadic life abroad!🥰 We have been doing altogether dozens of house-sits during the past few years, from short pet-sits to longer periods of taking care of houses and pets, around Europe and beyond. Also here in Portugal we travel in cycles; when house-sitting, we stay in one place and focus on working and cuddling the pets, and in-between the sits we focus on exploring new destinations. These lovely pups in the pics are our new furry friends here in Portugal😍🐾 We first took care of Ace and Tuck, absolutely charming brothers, near Lisbon, and then looked after Bella, a lovely rescue-girl in Foz do Arelho by the Atlantic coast and the Lagoon of Óbidos.#finnsaway #nomadlife #travelblog #travelbloggers #locationindependent #digitalnomads #digitalnomadlife #nomadiclife #travelforlife #travelphotography #travelinspiration #instatravel #portugal #housesitting
Inside the impressive walls, Elvas is a charming o Inside the impressive walls, Elvas is a charming old town with narrow, cobbled streets, ancient buildings and beautifully restored forts and gates. It is a lovely destination for a day trip, but even better if you stay overnight, enjoying the atmosphere of the old town when the sun sets and rises.#finnsaway #nomadlife #travelblog #travelbloggers #locationindependent #digitalnomads #digitalnomadlife #nomadiclife #travelforlife #travelphotography #travelinspiration #instatravel #portugal #visitelvas
Elvas is a small, strongly fortified town in easte Elvas is a small, strongly fortified town in eastern Portugal, right next to the Spanish border. It’s a historic town famous for extensive series of well-preserved city walls, battlements and forts, as well as for the stunning Amoreira Aquaduct that used to bring water to the town. The fortifications date back to 1640, when Portugal was declared independent from Spain. Elvas was fortified to be the first line of defense against possible Spanish invasions. The star-shaped fortifications protected the town from all sides, and Elvas managed to defend itself against three Spanish sieges, in 1658, 1711 and 1801. However, in 1808 it was defeated by the Napoleonic army.#finnsaway #nomadlife #travelblog #travelbloggers #locationindependent #digitalnomads #digitalnomadlife #nomadiclife #travelforlife #travelphotography #travelinspiration #instatravel #portugal #visitelvas
The last stop for us in Spain, before crossing the The last stop for us in Spain, before crossing the border to Portugal, was the small town of Zafra in Extremadura. Zafra is a rather quiet town in the off-the-beaten-track Province of Badajoz, but it’s a beautiful place as its own right, sometimes even called the Little Seville. Zafra was located on the strategic "Via de la Plata", or the Silver Route, in Roman Hispania. The most famous and prominent building of Zafra is the 15th-century Alcázar fortress. From the outside, it has more a military appearance, but in the inside it used to be the Palace of the Dukes of Feria, and the interior is sophisticated and elegant. Today the palace hosts Parador de Zafra hotel, allowing you to stay overnight in one of the beautiful rooms of the castle, and wandering along the corridors and walls of the fortress. We didn’t stay in Zafra castle, but shortly visited the inner courtyard of the castle, that hosts a café. After admiring the fortress for a while, we walked in the old parts of Zafra, visiting the main square Plaza Grande and taking pictures of the handsome churches and narrow alleys.#finnsaway #nomadlife #travelblog #travelbloggers #locationindependent #digitalnomads #digitalnomadlife #nomadiclife #travelforlife #travelphotography #travelinspiration #instatravel #spain #visitextremadura #visitzafra
There is an endless amount of castles and castle r There is an endless amount of castles and castle ruins in Spain, and sometimes you just run into them by accident. This one here is Castillo de Belmez, built on the top of a high rock right above the village of Belmez in Córdoba region in Andalusia, Spain. We stopped for a couple of nights in a rural airbnb in the neighboring town, Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo, and ran to Belez, and past the castle, along a half-marathon.The castle, that can be seen from afar, is originally apparently from the 13th century, and the main main tower and wall were built on the 16th century. During the centuries Belmez Castle has been an important stronghold, and in 1810 to 1812, during the Peninsular War, it was taken over by French troops. The castle is open to visitors and can be accessed via winding stairs, starting from this beautiful, flower-decorated alley.#finnsaway #nomadlife #travelblog #travelbloggers #locationindependent #digitalnomads #digitalnomadlife #nomadiclife #travelforlife #travelphotography #travelinspiration #instatravel #spain #visitandalusia #castillodebelmez
The Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba, a World Heritag The Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba, a World Heritage Site since 1984, is the most significant monument in the western Muslim World. In the different parts of this stunning building, the evolution of the Umayyad era architecture is visible, as well as the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. The site of the Mosque-Cathedral has been a place of worship for a long time, and before the current buildings, there first was the Basilica of San Vicente (during the rule of the Visigothic Kingdom) and later a primitive Mosque was built. The basilica then shared by Christians and Muslims, before under the ruler Abd ar-Rahman I it was demolished to make way for the first Alhama Mosque in the city (built in 785). The Great Mosque was expanded several times, and converted to a cathedral in 1236.The monumental Mosque-Cathedral is made up of two distinct areas, the courtyard, or sahn, where also the handsome Reneissance bell tower (converted from a minaret) stands, and the large prayer hall, or haram. The Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba is one of the major historic monuments of Spain.#finnsaway #nomadlife #travelblog #travelbloggers #locationindependent #digitalnomads #digitalnomadlife #nomadiclife #travelforlife #travelphotography #travelinspiration #instatravel #spain #visitandalusia #visitcordoba
